Organic Farming is a alternative method of crop and livestock production. They uses ecologically based pests controls and biological fertilizers. Most of the fertilizers are came from animal and plant wastes.

Modern farming mostly developed on making more profit out of less investment. So there are many synthetic pesticides and farming methods that are arrived to the market. However those pesticides and fertilizers are make a big harm to the environment than the organic farming.

The using of artificial pesticides and fertilizers were first used in mid 19th century. These artificial methods get more attractive among the farmers as there are more short term benefits in the farming. However they did not think about the long term side effects such as soil compaction, soil erosion and some health concerns as soil and water get toxic.

Due to these side effects scientist are seek for a remedy for this while keeping the higher production in crops. However in 1940s organic farming movement came to the stage for challenging the artificial fertilizers and their side effects.

The term organic farming is firstly introduced by a man named nornborn in his book “look to the land” in 1940s.

In 1943 sir albert howard, father of the organic farming published a book on talking about importance and the base of this farming technology “An Agricultural testament”. In this book he talked about how to increase the quality of the soil and recycling the disposals in the environment. He also wrote another book about health and diseases of the farming “Farming and Gardening for Health or Disease”

Organic Certification and Regulations

There are some authority that are to certify farmer’s products. Farmers who growing organic products must have to obtain organic certificate to sell their products in the market. There are several rules or standards in crops, livestock and other organic products. As a example, European Union and United states they prohibit to use synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, ionizing radiation,sewage sludge, and genetically engineered plants. EU they have published the rules and regulations and certification bodies for organic certification by European commission

Benefits of organic Farming

Organic farming methods using natural environment to enhance the productivity.

There are no toxic hazards as they using natural pesticides methods and natural fertilizers. They use composting methods which replaces nutrients from previous crops to soil. Hence organic farming depends on natural breakdown of organic matter and allows production of nutrients in the soil.

Mainly this method improves the health of the people as no synthetic chemicals used in the production as well as the wellness of the Eco system. So it is a good move towards the future of mankind as well as nature.

Helps to reduce green house effect. It reduce the emission of agricultural green house gases (CO2, NH4,N2O). Furthermore the water and nutrient level is increased thanks to organic matter and permanent soil cover. Also it stops the global warming and the climate change over the world.

By using synthetic fertilizers, Most of the water resources get polluted year by year. Hence replacing with organic fertilizers, it helps to reduce water pollution.

Organic crops are rich with nutrients as there are no toxic substances.

Organic farming improves the natural taste and quality of the foods.
