Have you ever heard of stray dog who fights with street protesters in Athens, Greece?
Loukanikos a mixed-breed stray dog has faced most of the protests happened in the Athens and soon become the symbol of riots. How ever this dog’s health become severely burdened due to inhaling tear gas during riots but lives about 10 years and died peacefully on 09th October 2014 at a home who cares for him.
However this stray hound hit the news from 2010 and appearing in front line of the protests. After fighting two years with the protestors and has retired in 2012
Athens journalist Damian Mac Con Uladh reports that Loukanikos suffered from his years on the front line.
According to Avgi journalist Petros Katsakos, the dog’s health was adversely affected by tear gas and from being kicked from police, forcing him to “retire” from active protest about two years ago. “He was on the couch sleeping, when suddenly his heart stopped beating,” Loukanikos’ carer told Avgi. At the height of his fame, Loukanikos even feature in Time Magazine’s review of 2011″
After his retirement, Loukanikos had a calm and peaceful life till his death and had caring and proper vaccinations which he wants. As of today loukanikos was a remembering icon in the Athens protests also a huge headache for police as he bites them.
How ever Loukanikos shows full loyalty and dignity to the person who fight with him, which was some thing us to learn from him.
after the death of Loukanikos someone created a mural to honour him and after all he become a remembering hound for entire Athens city. As for today this four-legged revolutionary was rest in peace under a tree on a hill in the center of the city.
Finally a American singer Davis Rovics saluted “this brave dog’s fight for justice in the economic turmoil that has hit Greece”.
